Sony's help desk was ineffective and uninterested - they couldn't fix it with a Safe Mode reset, changing out the HDMI or by changing the screen resolution (changed on another TV to either 480 or 720, then restart). The problem was off the end of thier checklist, so it's not their problem.
Sharp's help desk was less helpful - walked me through a hard system reset, then concluded it was the cord (which works fine on another TV). They then told me (via a model/ serial number search) the unit was built in 2000, and wasn't compatible. Well, that's not true, it WAS working and the four HDMI ports on it weren't produced until after 2004.
Am I having a software problem?
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
